Stock Farm is located in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley in Western Montana. Nestled in the hills above the city of Hamilton, is a masterpiece that evolved from the vision of Charles Schwab and his passion for golf, shooting, and fly-fishing. Golf Course architect and designer, Tom Fazio, calls Stock Farm Club “The Augusta of the West.”

Stock Farm Club boasts one of the longest outdoor seasons in Montana, with golf available to play from April through November. Some of the country’s best skiing is easily accessible in all directions from the club. World-class fly-fishing throughout the Bitterroot Valley and Montana makes this a destination spot for all levels of anglers. A guided trip down the Bitterroot River makes for unforgettable memories.

Job Description

Work closely with the Clubhouse Manager, Executive Chef, and General Manager. Responsible for the Food and Beverage Department inclusive of Events. Supervises the entire Food and Beverage (F&B) Operation. Assure a high standard of appearance, hospitality, and service in personnel and cleanliness of dining room. Ensures timeliness of food service. Work involves direct supervision and training of F&B Staff; maintaining F&B areas setup, cleanliness, and safety; enforcement of rules and policies. Helps develop and implement programs to increase revenues through repeat business and higher check averages.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create budgets, recruit staff, plan menus, and develop general operating procedures and other plans for the Food and Beverage Department.
  • Monitors the budget and directs corrective action procedures as necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained with an emphasis on inventories.
  • Conducts Beverage Inventory on a monthly basis.
  • Functions as an administrative link between all departments regarding all Food and Beverage activities.
  • Participate in event planning, create Banquet Event Orders, and the execution of events.
  • Conduct weekly Food and Beverage/Event meetings with other Club managers.
  • Monitors internal cost control procedures inclusive of inventory controls for food and beverages.
  • Plans and coordinates training and professional development programs for food and beverage personnel.
  • Assists the Clubhouse Manager &General Manager in developing and implementing long-range (strategic) and annual (business) plans, operating reports, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Monitors safety conditions and employees’ conformance with safety procedures; updates emergency plans and procedures and assures that effective training for these programs is conducted in the Food and Beverage Department.
  • Maintains contact with members and helps to assure maximum member satisfaction.
  • Receives and resolves complaints from club members, guests, and employees.
  • Assures that the club’s preventive maintenance and energy management programs are in use in the Food and Beverage Department.
  • Participates in on-going facility inspections throughout the club to assure that cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and other standards are consistently attained.
  • Serves as an ad hoc member of appropriate club committees as directed by the General Manager.
  • Serve as the Manager on Duty during other managers absence.
  • Attends management and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Serves as a club representative within the community.
  • Undertakes special projects as requested by the General Manager.
  • Creates promotional and marketing materials for Food and Beverage offerings and events.
  • Monitors labor; evaluates scheduled and actual labor hours and costs.
  • Research new product/equipment and develops an analysis of their costs and benefits.
  • Works with human resources department staff to develop long-term staffing needs for the Food and Beverage department.
  • Ensures that all legal requirements/compliance mandates are consistently followed.
  • May perform clubhouse opening and closing duties, including those related to security.
  • Monitors/enforces employee dress codes and member dress codes as applicable.
  • Conducts training and other meetings with department staff.
  • Completes other appropriate assignments made by the General Manager.
  • Reports to Clubhouse Manager.
  • Provides and assists with direct supervision of F&B service staff in the provision of F&B services to guests and members.
  • Resolve guest and member concerns, coordinating resolution with Executive Chef, or other members of the management team as appropriate.
  • Assists in hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating all F&B staff.
  • Confirms time, attendance and hours worked and approves weekly departmental payroll prior to submitting it to the Payroll Office.
  • Provides appropriate reports concerning employee hours, schedules, pay rates, job changes, tip pools, etc.
  • Able to lead staff through all service types such as American, Russian, French, and Buffet.
  • Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and safety of dining room areas, equipment, and fixtures; checks the maintenance of all equipment in the dining room and reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns.
  • Makes suggestions about improvements in dining room service procedures and layout.
  • Assists with and assures that the dining room and other club areas are secure at the end of the business day.
  • Helps maintain an inventory of dining room items including silverware, coffee pots, water pitchers, glassware, flatware and china, salt and pepper holders, sugar bowls and linen and ensures that they are properly stored and accounted for.
  • Helps monitor F&B labor and supplies budget; adjusts achieve financial goals.
  • Assist in the scheduling of F&B staff; coordinate scheduling with Executive Chef, or their designers, as needed.
  • Plans dining room set-up based on anticipated guest counts and client needs.
  • Monitor F&B service staff activity; take appropriate action to assist staff during volumes of increased activity and ensure guest and member satisfaction.
  • Monitor and reorder supplies and inventory as needed from the Executive Chef as appropriate.
  • May serve as the club’s opening and closing manager or manager on duty.
  • Works with Executive Chef to update, review and print weekly menu changes.
  • Assists in developing wine lists and beverage promotions.
  • Assures that local and state laws and the club’s policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Maintain and share knowledge of member F&B preferences; train F&B service staff on these preferences to support member and guest experience/satisfaction.
  • Assist with private events conducted club wide, as required.
  • Attends scheduled staff and management meetings.
  • May collaborate with Member Services Department to coordinate activities and presences to support overall guest and member experience.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned within the Food & Beverage Department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Maintains a high level of member contact throughout service hours.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
  • General knowledge of liquors, wine, and food & beverage services/functions.
  • Skill and proficiency in use of point-of-sale systems.
  • Skill in the use of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mechanics.
  • Skill (Intermediate) in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of computer systems; ability to perform data entry using industry-specific databases.
  • Ability to focus on details associated with provision of services and customer services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally/verbally with diverse groups of individuals and age ranges.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in highly fluid and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work with a team and interact with others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of Stock Farm Club and member and guest information.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and image of the Stock Farm Club.
  • Preferred: Prior successful employment with the Stock Farm Club in this or a related position.

 

Additional Requirements & Documentation

  • Must be able to work overtime and holidays as required; must be able to work additional weekday and early morning or evening hours as required.
  • Must be able to work variable schedule to include last-minute scheduling needs/changes and working split shifts.
  • Alcoholic beverage certification.
  • Food safety certification.
  • Ability to perform same-day travel within local geographic region.
  • Must be insurable by Club’s auto insurance provider and possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Environmental & Physical Conditions

General physical activities.  Work involves long periods of walking, standing, use of arms and legs, and movement of entire body.  Work includes climbing; lifting; balancing; walking; stooping; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; and safely lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds. Work involves walking on uneven and slippery surfaces.

Educational Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. 
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or related field. 
  • 5 years of Club or food and beverage management experience.
  • Skill and proficiency in use of point-of-sale systems.
  • Knowledge of hospitality and private club environment, or similar hotel/lodging reservation activities.
  • Knowledge of bartending and/or mixology.
