Founded in 1958, Highlands Falls Country Club is a private, member-owned club situated in the scenic town of Highlands, North Carolina. The Club offers a variety of amenities and activities, including golf, croquet, pickleball, tennis, bridge, fishing, swimming, dining, and fitness facilities, all set against the backdrop of breathtaking mountain views, cool summer temperatures, and a stunning waterfall. Highlands Falls Country Club is committed to ongoing investment and enhancement of its facilities, ensuring a premier experience for its members. The Club boasts a beautifully renovated 18-hole golf course, designed by renowned course architect Bill Bergin, offering pure golf enjoyment set in a stunning, dramatic landscape. The croquet facilities feature two full-sized lawns and an impressive pavilion, with the Club having previously hosted the USCA National Championships. The Sports Complex includes a tennis center with three Har-Tru courts and eight new professional pickleball courts. For fitness enthusiasts, the Club offers a two-story Fitness Center with panoramic views, equipped with a weight room, locker rooms, a group activity room, and comprehensive wellness services including spa treatments, personal training, and group fitness classes. The pool complex features a newly designed swimming pool with aquatic fitness programs, providing a relaxing and active environment for members. The recently renovated Clubhouse has expanded outdoor dining options, a new indoor/outdoor bar, improved lounge spaces, and refreshed décor, creating a vibrant social hub for members to enjoy. In the fall of 2025, the club began a complete renovation and expansion of the kitchen, The Turn, staff break room, F&B management offices, expanded outdoor dining facilities, and more.

Executive Sous Chef Position

Highlands Falls Country Club is pleased to announce a distinguished career opportunity for the position of Executive Sous Chef. Reporting to the Executive Chef and working in close collaboration with the F&B Director and other management staff, the Sous Chef will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring the delivery of exceptional service and the maintenance of high standards. Key responsibilities include personnel management, staff training, inventory and cost controls and daily kitchen operation oversight. Additionally, the Sous Chef will facilitate communication between departments as needed and attend all F&B related meetings.  The Club is open for regular operations from May through October.

The culinary management team is currently supported by an A la Carte Sous Chef, Pastry Chef and solid team of local and returning H2-B culinarians. This role is available at a unique and pivotal time in the history of Highlands Falls, as the culinary operation is undergoing a complete culinary-related renovation. The candidate we are seeking will have the opportunity to work alongside the Executive Chef and mid-management personnel in the complete redesign of operations including planning, ideas and procedural planning. It is a great opportunity for a growing candidate looking to grow into an Executive Chef role after a few years, which the Executive Chef and property would support.

Club is open 6 days per week, 6 months per year.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Ensure member satisfaction through direct supervision and adherence to staffing excellence while maintaining high service standards.
  2. Promote Highlands Falls Country Club to the highest standards, engaging with members, their guests, staff, and the local community to showcase the club's excellence.
  3. Assures that effective orientation and training for new staff and professional development activities for experienced staff are supported and followed.
  4. Train, and supervise staff, applying relevant training and culinary principles to consistently surpass the expectations of club members and guests.
  5. Conduct regular inspections to ensure all safety and sanitation standards are consistently maintained.
  6. Oversee daily kitchen operations.
  7. Attend pre-shift meetings (PM) and inform FOH staff of any daily specials and facilitate dietary awareness education.
  8. Maintain proper inventory levels through daily touch of product to include both a la carte and banquet needs. Regular monitoring of the order and receiving program to ensure accurate quantities, pricing, and quality of all products and supplies.
  9. Attend all F&B-related meetings or as directed by the Executive Chef.
  10. Create prep and station inventory lists for hourly staff to reflect regular menu changes.
  11. Plan and implement procedures alongside Executive Chef for special club events and banquet functions.
  12. Develop on-going training programs for food service personnel.
  13. Bring concerns to the attention to the Executive Chef, as they may arise.
  14. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Candidate Qualifications

  1. Minimum of 5 years of hospitality management experience in a private club, resort or hotel setting.
  2. From scratch culinary training stemming from time in a luxury culinary setting.
  3. Must be willing to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  4. A preferred understanding of the H2B process and working with seasonal international staff members.
  5. Must be well-spoken and professional, with a warm inviting presence.
  6. Organized, with excellent attention to detail.
  7. Competent proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and similar software.
  8. Experience with Jonas Club and software a plus.
