The Annapolis Yacht Club is a full service, year-round, Platinum Club of America award-winning premier private yacht club that provides high-quality programs for its members. These include sailboat racing, cruising for sailors and power boaters, a vigorous youth sailing program, fun and educational winter activities, social events, and first-class dining and banquet facilities.
AYC is a prominent fixture in Annapolis, is a good corporate citizen, and provides select opportunities for non-members such as its Junior Sailing program. In addition, AYC's Race Committee supports club racing and world-class regattas and international championships. AYC members are pleased to welcome these competitors and other visiting yachtsmen to the Clubhouse and sailing facilities.

Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Membership and Marketing provides strategic leadership and full ownership of the Club’s membership and marketing functions, including membership planning, analytics, engagement, financial performance, and marketing initiatives. This role ensures the Club maintains a full and engaged membership while supporting the member experience from prospective candidate through long-term retention.
The Director develops, implements, and continuously refines strategies to support membership growth, retention, engagement, and revenue goals, using data-driven insights and trend analysis to guide decisions. In collaboration with internal teams, the Director helps with targeted marketing and communications initiatives, promotes member engagement through programming, and ensures alignment with the Club’s mission, policies, and desired membership composition.
This role also drives operational effectiveness by overseeing key processes, budgets, and forecasting while maintaining high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and member satisfaction. As a strategic partner to the Board, committees, and leadership team, the Director contributes recommendations and initiatives that strengthen the Club’s membership function, enhance the member experience, and support the long-term sustainability and vitality of the Club

Candidate Qualifications
JOB KNOWLEDGE, CORE COMPETENCIES, AND EXPECTATIONS
Experience & Industry Knowledge - Minimum of 5 years of experience in membership, hospitality, or a related field, with a strong understanding of membership-based organizations and service-driven environments.
Strategic Thinking & Analytical Ability - Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and translate insights into actionable strategies and recommendations that support organizational goals.
Communication - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to members, staff, leadership, and the Board of Governors.
Technology & Systems Proficiency - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with CRM systems (e.g., Clubessential) required. Familiarity with design and marketing tools (e.g., Adobe, Canva, Indesign, Jotform) preferred.
Leadership & Collaboration - Ability to work collaboratively across departments while also demonstrating initiative and independent ownership of responsibilities. Maintains a professional presence and builds strong working relationships with staff, leadership, and membership.
Confidentiality & Professionalism - Exercises sound judgment and maintains strict confidentiality when handling sensitive member and Club information. Represents the Club with professionalism at all times.
Organization & Project Management - Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and administer both strategic initiatives and operational responsibilities effectively.
Decision-Making & Initiative - Demonstrates independent judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize and execute work with minimal direction while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
Member-Focused Mindset - Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a diverse membership and stakeholder group, providing a high level of service and responsiveness while balancing organizational priorities.
