A la carte dining is offered for breakfast lunch and dinner six days a week. Our seasonal a la carte member dining is poolside dining May through September. A la carte dining is offered in the Clubhouse's full service locker rooms for both ladies and men. Halfway house food and beverage fare is provided for golfers daily. The Bar offered small bites, an extensive wine by the glass selection and spirits. The banquet and catering operation coordinates private dining and events. The ballroom will seat up to 500 guests. Main Dining Room will seat 200 guests. The Club offers six other private rooms which will seat between 10-60 guests. The Club has a banquet kitchen that services all private events and a separate kitchen for a la carte dining. In the summer months a separate poolside kitchen provides for members dining at the pool.

Founded in 1923, River Oaks Country Club is located in one of the fastest growing cities in the country with an exceptionally strong economy. Situated on 183 beautiful acres, just four miles from downtown Houston, the Club offers a full gamut of recreational and social amenities to include a 1923 Donald Ross designed golf course recently renovated by Tom Fazio, a well-equipped and active four bay golf teaching center, extensive tennis facilities including eight clay and eight hard courts, aquatics, a state-of-the-art fitness center and an elegant clubhouse offering a variety of member dining and event spaces. River Oaks has a long-standing reputation of providing members, their families and guests with an exceptional club experience and unparalleled service.

The Club will celebrate 100 years of service to the membership and the community in 2023. Just before that milestone, a $28 million-dollar addition on the East End of the Clubhouse will be completed to include four new swimming pools, expanded outdoor recreation facilities, a 250-seat poolside dining outlet, new employee facilities, additional private event space, and youth activities center.

River Oaks Country Club is considered among the nation’s premier private clubs. The Club has a rich golf, tennis and social history and holds a prominent position in the lives of its multigenerational membership. River Oaks’ 1,600 members are actively involved in the city’s social, philanthropic and business activities.

Assistant Manager

Brief Job Description

Reporting to the Member Dining Manager, the Assistant Manager position at River Oaks Country Club is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of a la carte dining rooms and food and beverage outlets. The role assists other Managers in providing oversight for all services and staff throughout the member dining rooms in the Clubhouse, a la carte private dining, bar food service, the food to go program, ancillary outlets and poolside dining, totaling nearly $3 million in revenue.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Member Dining and Outlets Managers in the supervision of staff in all areas of Clubhouse dining and Food and Beverage Outlets
  • Collaborates with Managers and other Assistant Mangers to provide a weekly staff schedule for Clubhouse dining rooms based upon anticipated member/guest counts and special events needs
  • Assists in the training and evaluation of staff, including contribution to annual performance reviews
  • Assist in conducting pre-shift meetings covering important service and club related topics
  • Maintains a presence in all Clubhouse dining rooms and/or outlets throughout service
  • Inspects employees to ensure that they are in proper and clean uniforms at all times
  • Assists in compiling sales and service data for the daily dining recap report
  • Provides appropriate reports concerning employee hours, schedules and job changes
  • Receives and resolves complaints concerning food, beverages, and service
  • Serves as liaison between the dining room and kitchen staff
  • Ensures that all side work is completed by dining staff according to ROCC standards and in a timely manner
  • Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and safety of dining areas, equipment and fixtures 
  • Checks the maintenance of all equipment in the dining room and/or outlets and reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns
  • Makes suggestions about improvements in service procedures and layout
  • Assists with club events and private events
  • Coordinates with Banquet staff on club events and exchanges in staff
  • Assists in service when and where needed

Candidate Qualifications

  • 1-3 Years of related experience in a high end private club or hotel operation
  • A high school education or equivalent is required, with a four-year college degree preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Point of Sale knowledge preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Food and Beverage service knowledge
  • Current TABC and Texas Food Handler Certifications
