Special Club Features

Merion Golf Club is a private golf club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, established in 1896 and is home to two golf courses.  The historic East Course and a family-friendly West Course. Since 1912, Championship golf and champion golfers have long been intertwined with the mystique of Merion Golf Club’s East Course. Both courses were designed by Hugh Wilson; however, Merion’s East Course has played host to more USGA Championships than any course in America and is home to some of its greatest moments.  From Robert Tyre Jones, Jr.'s completion of golf’s elusive Grand Slam at the 1930 U.S. Amateur to Ben Hogan’s awe-inspiring performance and now legendary one-iron on the 72nd hole during the 1950 U.S. Open, the sculpted greens, fairways and treacherous bunkers of Merion have shaped the game.  Most recently the host of the 2013 U.S. Open, Merion continues to not only challenge the world’s best, but identify them as well.

Merion has held 18 major Championships and is scheduled to host its 19th in June 2022, the Curtis Cup Match and is a future site to the 2026 U.S. Men’s Amateur Championship, 2030 U.S. Open, 2034 U.S. Women's Open, 2046 U.S. Women's Open, and 2050 U.S. Open.  Today the Club continues to serve its membership in much the same fashion honoring the game and its traditions while hosting its members in the historic Clubhouse.

Although Merion is most well-known for its golf courses and historic Clubhouse, the Club staff takes pride in providing excellence in all aspects of Club operations for Merion’s 1,000-plus member and their guests.

Merion Golf Club is open daily for operation of golf in season (April – November). Club dining is open six days per week year-round, closed Monday with many special events offered seasonally. The Club is open on all holidays in season except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

Club is open 6 days per week, 12 months per year.

Intern

Brief Job Description

Merion Golf Club is dedicated to the development of industry talent across departments, including Golf, Green, Culinary, Restaurant, and Banquet. Depending on each individual student’s experience level, career goals, and individual interests, there are multiple levels of F&B internships and each with established rotations and learning objectives. Perhaps the most unique part of an internship with Merion is our Club’s General Manager and Department Manager “All-Intern Sessions.” These sessions include interns from each Club department and give interns the opportunity to interact with Club leadership to learn more about Club operations, financials, and other interesting topics. The Club’s Executive Team uses the sessions to impart valuable knowledge and get to know each of the interns individually.

Food & Beverage Intern – Level I: Focuses on learning the roles of each front-of-house position in the Restaurant, including Busser, Food Runner, Expeditor, Server, and Bartender. Assists in the daily food and beverage operations in each position to thoroughly learn à la carte and banquet service. Internship progresses to shadowing front-of-house managers to learn the basics of floor management.

Food & Beverage Intern – Level II: This program will allow students who have already completed prior internships the opportunity to spend time shadowing the Assistant Clubhouse Managers, Food & Beverage Manager, and Clubhouse Manager to familiarize themselves with the demands and responsibilities of a managerial position. The student will be trained in each service staff position to get a sense of the entire operation.

Merion Golf Club has proudly hosted 19 USGA Championships and is the future site of the 2026 U.S. Amateur, 2030 U.S. Open, 2034 U.S. Women's Open, 2046 U.S. Women's Open, and the 2050 U.S. Open.
