Golf Course Superintendent
Job Summary
Responsible for all activities related to the care and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, and equipment. Plan and implement budgets. Hire, train and supervise staff. Apply agronomic, landscaping, and horticultural principles to assure that quality standards are consistently achieved and/or exceeded. Maintain a safe, productive work environment and ensure that market position standards are met, and the golf course continually improves.
Job Tasks (Duties)
- Maintains all grounds and course maintenance equipment.
- Schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates all personnel assigned to department.
- Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and other facilities on the golf course.
- Supervises operation of the equipment repair shop.
- Assists in preparation of annual budget for department; takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.
- Selects, prepares, performs, proper fertilizer, fungicide, and insecticide programs for all turfgrass.
- Develops, maintains, fixes drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
- Maintains course in proper playing condition.
- Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, on course in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Communicates as necessary with General Manager and golf professionals to discuss conditions of facilities, maintenance plans, scheduled events, golf.
- Ensures that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Attends staff and management meetings, as needed.
- Establishes short- and long-range plans for the golf course.
- Oversees all course construction if needed.
- Conducts daily scouting of all turfgrasses surfaces for diseases and able to correct such problems as they arise.
- Assists with snow removal and covering of greens.
- Plans professional development and training activities for subordinates.

Educational Requirements
Minimum of an associate degree in Agronomy or in a related field plus experience with working with TifEagle greens and Bermuda tees and fairways
Experience Requirements
- Requires knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices, and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
- Requires excellent oral and written English communications skills; fluency in Spanish helpful but not required.
- Ability to apply agronomic understanding to carry out and administer turfgrass programs and procedures.
- Ability to deal with ever changing challenges on a minute-by-minute basis and instigate necessary corrections.
Special Requirements
Pesticide applicators license, or the ability to obtain within sixty days of employment.
