Special Club Features

About the Club

The Congress Lake Club is an exclusive private club unique amongst most country clubs. Located in the Greater Akron/Cleveland metropolitan area, Congress Lake was founded in 1880 and incorporated as the Congress Lake Club by its founding member, President William McKinley in 1896.

The Club boasts a resort-like setting encompassing over 1000 acres. Congress Lake offers the typical amenities of all high-end exclusive country club such as, a Donald Ross designed, and pristinely maintained, 18-hole golf course with extensive practice facilities; a 50,000 square foot century clubhouse; resort style swimming pool; 6 clay tennis courts and 2 platform courts; several dining outlets and banquet facilities; 2 kitchens; multiple bars; and 10 overnight guest suites.

Congress Lake may seem like a traditional country club, but it offers its member-owners something much more than just great golf and dining. It provides a resort lifestyle in their backyard for every family member regardless of age. The Club’s social events are non-stop including daily activities led by a Youth Director and team. The expansive property is centered on our private glacial lake. Boating, sailing, championship fishing, and a full-service marina provide recreational opportunities for the 88 lakefront estate residents and 300 more non-resident members. Walking and hiking throughout the grounds and the neighboring State Park or enjoying a cocktail watching the sun set on the Lake, the Club provides our members with an escape from the city and the suburbs just minutes from their home.

About the Area

Members joke that Congress Lake is the last “country” club that is still in the “country.” While our location could seem remote to some, our area enjoys a great quality of life for young professionals.  Northeast Ohio is undergoing an economic and cultural renaissance. Downtown Cleveland, just a 45 minute drive from the Club, is receiving accolades for its diverse food scene thanks to a mix of traditional, ethnic and creative chef-driven restaurants. Its music scene is one of the best in the country, from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Severance Hall, and the Blossom Amphitheater in the Cuyahoga National Park to the many indie concert venues around town. Many of the Club employees reside in the college town of Kent, Ohio, just a few minutes from the Club. Kent State University’s enrollment is almost 30,000 and the community provides an active and engaged lifestyle for young people.

Club is open 6 days per week, 11 months per year.
