Special Club Features

Founded in 1895, The Country Club of Rochester (CCR) is one of the oldest golf clubs in America. Its award winning golf course was designed by Donald Ross, the pre-eminent golf course architect of his time and a Master Plan restoration was completed in 2004 by Golf Course Architect, Gil Hanse. The Club hosted the first U.S.G.A. U.S. Women's Open Championship in 1953, the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in 1962 and the U.S. Women's Open Championship again in 1973.

In the very early days, the Club's reputation was enhanced through the fame of the incomparable Walter Hagen, one of the greatest of professional golfers, and certainly the game's most colorful player in his era. Hagen grew up in Brighton, near the Country Club, where he was first a caddie and later became Club professional. In the Hagen Lounge, which perpetuates his name, there are memorabilia marking his golfing achievements, and The Hagen Lounge perpetuates his name. Golf Course Architect Robert Trent Jones also got his start in golf as a caddie at CCR.

Today, CCR remains a vibrant part of over 570 member families in the Rochester area.  Widely considered “the finest country club experience for families in the Rochester, NY area,” members are extremely proud of the Club, its tradition and history, which includes an extremely well-conditioned course, no tee times and an outstanding junior golf program.  The Club is well known for its Fireworks Celebration, Pig Roast, Member-Guest Tournament, and Wine Dinners.  Friday night happy hours are a wonderful gathering time for members and friends.  Service traditions at CCR include a tremendous focus on a staff that “greets you by name” each time you walk through the doors.

Sports activities at CCR feature golf, tennis, swimming, skating, hockey, platform tennis, fitness workouts, and cross-country skiing. An era of equestrianism, which included riding, polo, hunting, and widely acclaimed horse show, came to an end when the club stables were closed in the late 1950's.

Combined with its commitment to the Long Range Plan investments, CCR appears poised to be consistently acknowledged as one of the finest clubs in the country!

Club is open 6 days per week, 12 months per year.
