Special Club Features

Our Mission: To promote and provide support for the sport of sailing, power boating, water safety, and related activities; as well as provide facilities for its members to share common interests in a social atmosphere of mutual camaraderie, both on and off the water.

Formed in 1933 by business and professional leaders in Panama City, the St. Andrew’s Bay Yacht Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious yacht clubs on the northern Gulf Coast.  We are a private Club, membership in which is by invitation and approval of the Board of Governors.  Our approximately 400 member/owners are served by a general manager and a staff of 40.

The Club is a member of both the Gulf Yachting Association, an association of 33 clubs from St. Petersburg to Louisiana, and the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, an association of 37 clubs around the state.  We compete in several regattas throughout the year and have an active youth sailing instruction program in the summer.  We have two docks, one with power pedestals for overnight docking, and a private boat ramp.

In addition to sailing and waterfront activities, the Club offers a welcoming, family atmosphere to its members, who utilize its restaurant, lounge, and pool six days a week.  The Club is host to community and social events throughout the year and is available for weddings and private parties

Summary

The General Manager of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club, Inc., manages all aspects of the club including its activities and the relationships between the club and its Board of Directors, members, guests, employees, community, government, and industry. Specific responsibilities include: coordination and administration of the Club’s policies as defined by its Board of Directors, ensuring maximum membership and guest satisfaction, developing operation policies and procedures, directing the work of all department managers, implementing and monitoring the budget, monitoring the quality of the club’s products and services, securing and protecting the club’s assets, including facilities and equipment.

Managerial Expectations

  • Implementation of general policies established by the Board of Directors; direct their administration and execution.
  • Plan, develop, and implement operational policies, programs, procedures, and methods in concert with general policies.  Establish basic personnel policy including training and professional development programs.  Guide subordinate department heads to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all employees. Hold ultimate authority over inter-departmental matters and policies concerning employee-employer relations. Monitor compliance with purchasing policies and procedures. 
  • Oversee and monitor the member experience across all departments to ensure the Club consistently provides a superior membership experience.
  • Ability to remain diplomatic and tactful -yet firm- in dealing with membership. Resolve member complaints; anticipate potential problems by reviewing and monitoring complaints, operational issues, business flow, and associate performance.  Ensure high levels of customer & member satisfaction and quality assurance.
  • Ability to remain discreet and respectful of the privacy of all members.
  • Monitor the club’s long- and short-term objectives.  Coordinate the development of the club’s long range plan and annual business plans.
  • Develop, maintain, and administer a sound organizational plan: initiate improvements as necessary.
  • Maintain membership with the Club Managers Association of America and other professional associations. Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the club field.
  • Coordinate development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar; monitor monthly financial statements for the club; take effective corrective actions as required. Analyze financial statements, manage cash flow, and establish controls to safeguard funds. Review income and cost relative to goals; take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Coordinate and serve as ex-officio member of appropriate club committees.  Manage cross-functional teams and multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Welcome new club members; “meet and greet” all club members as practical during their visit to the club.  Coordinate marketing and membership relation programs to promote the club’s services and facilities to potential and present members.
  • Consistently ensure that the club is operated in accordance with the by-laws, house rules, and all applicable locals, state, and federal laws.
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of all of the club’s physical assets and facilities. Provide for and manage use of the equipment, space, and materials.  Negotiate then provide advice and recommendations to the Commodore and committees about construction, alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment, and services not provided in approved plans and/or budgets.
  • Ensure the highest standard for food, beverage, sports and recreation, entertainment, and other club services.
  • Review and assist program directors for the venue to provide members with a variety of popular events.
  • Prepare reports and other support material for committee and Board use.
  • Give direction to and work closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms, and individuals providing services to the club.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Commodore or Board of Directors.

Schedule Expectations

Other than fulfilling the hours necessary to complete general business needs, the General Manager is expected to make an effort to be present when the Club is anticipated to be busy and for large and special events.   Some travel may be necessary.

Candidate Qualifications

  • 5-10 years food & beverage management experience
  • Hospitality experience preferred
  • Fine dining/banquet experience
  • Food service certifications, First Aid & CPR within 90 days of date of hire
