Nestled in Western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, between the resort towns of Blowing Rock, Boone, and Banner Elk, Hound Ears Club is a family-oriented mountain community established in 1964. A member-owned Club situated on a scenic 750 acres, Hound Ears showcases the High Country’s natural beauty and offers a variety of amenities, including an 18-hole golf course, fly fishing, hiking, racquet sports, swimming, dining, and Fitness Center, along with a full calendar of social events.

Assistant Clubhouse Manager

Brief Job Description

The desired candidate will have an experienced background in a recognizable multi-unit restaurant/hotel operation or a successful history in Private Club operations. A key to the new ACM’s success is the intuitive sense to be “present” and to engage with the team plus the entire multi-dimensional membership. Responsible for the club’s a la carte dining services throughout the club campus, this individual will work closely with the Clubhouse Manager to lead the F&B team.

Food and Beverage operations at Hound Ears Club are open 7 days per week, May through October, 5 days per week for individually planned events November - April, with a busy banquet and Member golf event schedule. During the off-season Hound Ears Club hosts member events aligned with major sporting events and social gatherings. Outlets include the Main Club House Dining, lower-level which seats 120, Upper Terrace and Fire Side that seats 30, The Hound Ears Room banquet venue that seats up to 80, Tee House, Cascades Pool Snack Bar, busy to-go ordering, and banquets and events. Reports include Beverage Manager, Assistant F&B Managers, Outlet Manager and F&B Training Manager.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Food and Beverage cost controls and operating procedures.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.
  • POS system experience, Joans and JAM strongly preferred.
  • Strong wine and beverage knowledge.
  • An outgoing and positive personality, strong work ethic.
  • Maintains an elevated level of member contact throughout service hours and must be able to pivot and adapt to unexpected scenarios.
  • Polished, professional appearance and presentation.
  • Management of all beverage inventories and purchases.
  • Ensure effective and efficient staffing and scheduling for all facilities and functions while balancing financial objectives with member satisfaction goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Clubhouse Manager/ Executive Chef in building social event programming at the club and establishing innovative ideas for dining and service.
  • Is a proven leader who can manage their time and establish and manage priorities.
  • Build, train, and maintain employee teams.
  • Polished communication skills among Members and guests and visibility among Members and guests. These are incredibly important attributes of the incoming ACM.

Educational Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year university or college is desirable, preferably in Hospitality or Business Management.
  • In lieu of the degree, substantial hospitality experience will be considered.
  • Credentials from the hospitality industry, recognizing ongoing involvement and commitment to lifelong personal and professional development such as CMAA enrollment and working towards your CCM are desired but not required.
