Special Club Features

Members have access to the Club 7 days per week, but regular food and beverage service is offered Monday evening and Tuesday through Friday for lunch and dinner. The Club is open on limited weekends for Private Parties.

The Maryland Club is a private members club in the Mount Vernon district of Baltimore. The Club was founded in 1857, has a rich history and recently completed an $8.5 million capital improvement project. The updated facilities include a state of the art 5000 square foot fitness center, three doubles squash courts (the only Club in USA to have this distinction), three singles squash courts, updated locker room and wet areas and a new bar / restaurant called the Charles Street Grill. The Clubhouse also offers formal dining, bars, an outside porch and private parties. The Club is at an exciting point in its history.

Club is open 5 days per week, 12 months per year. The Club is closed on New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Christmas Day.

Brief Job Description

The Maryland Club, rich in history and tradition, is committed to exceptional hospitality and highly personalized service. We are seeking a skilled Food and Beverage/Banquet Manager to supervise a la carte dining services, assisting with management of all private parties and in-house events, assisting in managing beverage inventories and providing administrative support for the departments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing staff, ensuring customer satisfaction, and optimizing profitability. 

Responsibilities include scheduling, leading and supporting the Food & Beverage Service Staff during a la carte shifts and banquet functions, providing administrative support for the Directors of Food & Beverage and Catering, coordinating activities with the Accounting and Culinary Services departments, assisting Staff Members with uniforms, timecards and training and providing any other assistance as needed, all while ensuring the member experience is exceptional.

  • Assist in staff scheduling to achieve a profitable result.

  • Train and supervise a la carte & banquet staff to deliver exceptional service and maintain a high moral of current and newly-hired employees. 

  • Conduct briefings with a la carte and banquet staff service staff prior to each function. 

  • Conduct thorough checks of all function rooms before events to ensure proper set up to the Club’s standards and the client’s specifications. 

  • Ensure BEO’s are properly executed. 

  • Promote teamwork and two-way communication. 

  • Assist as day-to-day liaison with various departments including FOH and BOH to ensure a smooth operation. 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

  • Assisting with the planning, setup, execution, and breakdown of banquet functions. 

Candidate Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of food & beverage service and understanding of culinary arts.

  • Experience in managing all aspects of banquet operations, including setup, service, and breakdown. 

  •  Proven experience in banquet or event management
    - Strong knowledge of food preparation, presentation, and service
    - Familiarity with inventory management and cost control
    - Excellent communication and leadership skills
    - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Three to five years’ experience in an upscale fast-paced restaurant, private club, or banquet setting is strongly preferred.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft office and basic software programs related to menu design and operate internal systems for inventory control.

  • A college degree in hospitality or equivalent degree, certification or related experience.

  • Must have weekend and evening availability.

Strong interpersonal skills, be personable and enthusiastic and can effectively work as a leader and team member and communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in hospitality management prefered.
