Members and guests, and reciprocal club members enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, and brunch in a lovely setting. Our culinary team offers creative, delicious, seasonal menus that incorporate local produce and showcase artisanal vendors in the city.

Special Club Features

The Sulgrave Club was established in 1932 and is one of the United States premiere ladies clubs with membership of 1,200.  The Club functions as a private boutique hotel, featuring seven overnight rooms, multiple fine dining rooms, a library, a private terrace, a spectacular ballroom and additional parlor/sitting rooms.  The mansion, also known as the Wadsworth House, is a registered landmark with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. 

The club is open seven days a week September through June.  (Although the Club is closed to the membership in July and August, Management works an abbreviated schedule on dedicated projects.)

Club is open 7 days per week, 10 months per year.

About Sulgrave Club: The Sulgrave Club is a traditional and formal club known for its exceptional service and member satisfaction. We provide a welcoming and professional environment for both our members and staff.

Position Overview: The Sulgrave Club is seeking an adaptable and dynamic Operations Manager. The ideal candidate will have a food & beverage background, positive attitude, a hands-on management style, and the ability to act as Manager on Duty when needed. This role requires strong organizational skills to manage our detail-oriented operations and ensure the highest level of service for our members and guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Supervision: Oversee the Front Desk, Housekeeping, Doorman and Valet teams, including managing schedules, payroll, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Guest Room Operations: Lead the operations of our overnight guest rooms, including pricing, amenities, marketing, communications, and planning.
  • Operational Coverage: Responsible for covering the Banquet Manager or Food & Beverage Manager’s days off and adapt to cover any operation as needed, including front desk, overnight shifts, and room operations.
  • Member Interaction: Maintain a high level of visibility and professionalism with members, acting as a liaison for the Reciprocal Clubs and Archives Committees and ensuring positive interactions.
  • Event and Shift Management: Actively manage and participate in the planning and execution of events, ensuring all operational aspects are covered efficiently.
  • Project Management: Work on various projects, especially during the club's off-season, to prepare for the upcoming operational season.
  • Communication: Ensure clear and effective communication with all team members and departments to maintain smooth operations.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a similar traditional club setting is encouraged.
  • Knowledge of Jonas POS computer system is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with food & beverage and/or overnight room operations is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to exceed the expectations of members and guests.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to be articulate, tactful, courteous, and diplomatic.
  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-cultural staff as a team player.
  • Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods, work long hours if necessary, and safely lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Efficient in time management and decision-making.
  • Positive attitude and adaptable to a variety of roles and responsibilities.
  • Hands-on approach to management and problem-solving.

Educational Requirements

  • High School degree required, college degree preferred
