Assistant Spa & Fitness Director

Brief Job Description

Reports to: Spa and Fitness Director
Supervises: Spa and Fitness Front Desk, Aquatics, and Children's Programming
Classification: Exempt

Job Summary

Promote an exceptional member spa & fitness experience and provide creative services and programs for all members and guests. Responsible for scheduling staff, ensuring member satisfaction, and overseeing health and safety compliance

Essential Function 

  • Leadership
  • Promotes a positive work culture.
  • Responsible for all front desk, aquatics, and children's programming staff. Including recruiting and hiring, scheduling, training, and conducting meetings
  • Assist staff in implementing club policies, goals, operating procedures, and standards.

Member Engagement and Support

  • Offer one-on-one fitness assessments, personal training sessions, and personalized fitness plans when needed
  • Develop and lead group fitness classes, ensuring they are varied, high-quality, and accessible to members of all fitness levels.
  • Assist members with using equipment correctly, provide fitness tips, and answer questions to foster a supportive environment.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain fitness equipment to ensure it is safe, clean, and in good working order.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, equipment is sanitized after use, and locker rooms are well-maintained.
  • Enforce safety protocols, provide guidance on safe equipment use, and be prepared to administer first aid or respond to emergencies.
  • Build strong relationships with members, learn their fitness goals, and offer personalized recommendations.
  • Collect member feedback on classes and equipment, using it to improve offerings and increase member satisfaction
  • Create a welcoming, motivating environment, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie within the fitness program

Aquatic

  • Monitor pool areas, enforce safety rules, and ensure lifeguard presence during operating hours.
  • Offer swimming lessons, water safety courses, and support for swimmers.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain pool equipment, water quality, and cleanliness
  • Be trained and ready to respond to emergencies, perform rescues, and administer first aid as needed.

Kids Camp

  • Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities that cater to diverse interests.
  • Monitor children closely, enforce camp safety guidelines, and ensure secure facilities.
  • Lead recreational, educational, and creative activities, keeping children engaged and motivated.
  • Manage group dynamics and address behavioral issues appropriately
  • Keep open lines of communication with parents, providing updates and addressing concerns.

Wellness

  • Assess clients wellness needs and provide information on available services or recommend programs.
  • Assist in designing and leading wellness programs, including fitness classes, nutrition seminars, and mindfulness sessions.

Operations

  • Responsible for working front desk shifts as assigned.</li> <li>Assist with all retail operations.
  • Assists with member charges and locker rental records.</li> <li>Assist with the purchase of departmental supplies and merchandise for resale for the department.
  • Oversees facilities and equipment to ensure safety, cleanliness, and good working order
  • Assist with applicable daily reports, ensuring they are completed correctly, and approve/review outgoing communications and contracts when necessary
  • Attends management meetings; conducts staff meetings in the absence of the Director.
  • Completes all other assignments made by the Spa and Fitness Director.

Non-Essential:

  • Pursues continuous development and education to enhance the image, quality, and offerings of the department.

Candidate Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, or hospitality is preferred.
  • Additional fitness certifications, including group fitness instructor or personal training, are preferred.&nbsp;</li> <li>A minimum of three years of private club experience as a spa and/or health and fitness manager is preferred.
  • One year of leadership experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required roles in emergency situations.
  • Licenses and Special Requirements
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance, and/or crouch.
  • Continuous repetitive motions.
  • Physical exertion over long periods of time.</li> <li>Work in a hot and cold environment.
  • Push, pull, and lift 50 pounds.
