ABOUT THE SURF CLUB OF RYE

Founded in 2002, The Surf Club of Rye is a private, members-only beach club located in the charming coastal town of Rye, New Hampshire. One hundred and seventy-five family units enjoy access to the beachfront, swimming pool, fireplace, grills for cooking, snack bar, music, events, and more. It is a special place where old friends gather, and new friendships are made.

Club is open 7 days per week, 6 months per year.

Club Manager

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Club Manager will seasonally oversee the day-to-day operations of the Surf Club of Rye. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership, communication, and customer service skills, along with a passion for fostering a positive club culture. The Club Manager will ensure the smooth operation of the club, provide outstanding service to members, manage a small team, and collaborate with the Board to ensure continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Prepare the club for the preseason and postseason.
  • Oversee daily operations and programs (including swim), ensuring the highest standards of safety, service, and member satisfaction.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the club’s facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with local and state regulations, health and safety standards, and club policies.

Member Relations

  • Handle and resolve member inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with member-led committees to inform and facilitate the implementation of their ideas and actions.
  • Oversee the waitlist and new member inquiries.

Team Management

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard all seasonal team members.
  • Manage and supervise club staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management (including lifeguards and coaches).

Board Relations

  • Oversee club finances and budgets, including managing membership fees/billings, club expenses, and vendor relationships.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to report on club performance, suggest improvements, and execute priorities.

Entertainment

  • Coordinate events, activities, and social gatherings for club members to foster community engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors.

Candidate Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years in a leadership role in club management.
  • Supervisory experience.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic financial management and budgeting.
  • A passion for the beach, coastal activities, and creating a positive member experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with club management software is a plus.

  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed

Educational Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Hospitality Management).
