Farmington Country Club is a premier, full-service private club in Central Virginia. Farmington is a member-owned club founded in 1927, and recognized as a Distinguished Clubs with ICONIC status and a Platinum Club of America. Portions of the clubhouse date to 1780 and were designed by Thomas Jefferson. The grounds of Farmington Country Club cover 275 landscaped acres and include the clubhouse, guest rooms, athletic facilities, tennis courts and golf course.

The club has two restaurants, an upscale dining room (195 seats) a grill restaurant (215 seats) and a fast-casual poolside grill; each has its own kitchen. In addition, there are private dining rooms seating 100, 50, 40 and 12, a ballroom seating 250 and two seasonal snack bars. Sports facilities include 28 holes of golf, 15 outdoor and three indoor tennis courts, three paddle tennis courts, a swimming complex with diving and lap pools and a zero-depth recreation area, and a professionally staffed fitness center. Club facilities include 39 overnight guest rooms.

Job Description

Farmington Country Club presents an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join our high-volume and fast-paced Food and Beverage Operations team as the Grill Manager! Our Grill Management Team consistently delivers high-quality service to our members and their guests in a friendly, professional manner. An ideal candidate has managerial experience in a high-volume restaurant, resort, hotel, or club environment. They are also passionate about wine & beverage knowledge and are looking to give members and their guests fantastic, personalized service.

The Grill is the go-to spot for members of Farmington Country Club and is a casual sit-down restaurant & bar with a focus on American Bistro style cuisine with a complimenting bar program. The Grill hosts four different dining options – the Bar & Pub, the Dining Room, the outdoor Terrace, and Take-Out. Member expectations often differ between the spaces, although they are still there to enjoy the same great food, elevated drinks, and excellent service. The Grill is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner service 7 days a week.

Job Summary:

Responsible for managing the daily operation of the Farmington Grill restaurant, to include hiring, training, and supervising service team members; service delivery; maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary restaurant; preparing and managing the budget, developing, and implementing strategies to improve and enhance the dining experience; and developing and implementing employee incentive programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Grill and maintain a presence through breakfast, lunch and/or dinner service, to Farmington standards of quality;
  • Anticipate members’ and guests’ needs and take appropriate action to deliver consistently high-quality customer service;
  • Hire, train, and lead the Grill service team of 50+ employees and 4 assistant managers;
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary restaurant;
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Food & Beverage to articulate and implement a department vision that aligns with the Club vision;
  • Ensure the proper completion of daily walkthroughs and checklists;
  • Develop annual department and individual goals and take responsibility for their achievement;
  • Participate in the development and management of the annual Grill budget;
  • Ensure that Grill beverage service program goals are met, including beverage menu, TIPS training, controls, monthly inventory, requisitions, and adherence to state liquor laws;
  • Serve as a knowledgeable sommelier when required;
  • Manage team schedules, approve payroll, and monitor time and attendance policy through Paycom;
  • Maintain service standards consistently through staff training and accountability;
  • Conduct annual staff performance reviews;
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Grill Chef de Cuisine;
  • Participate in regular meetings with Assistant Director of Food and Beverage, Grill service managers and Grill staff;
  • Lead the development of marketing and promotion plans for the Grill restaurant, to include monthly newsletter and website articles;
  • Develop employee incentive programs that promote teamwork, achievement of member service, and financial goals;
  • Effectively communicate with members, staff and colleagues;
  • Cross-train in other Food and Beverage departments;
  • Serve on the Club’s Safety Committee;
  • Play an active role in menu change procedures, member communications, Point of Sale system oversight, requisitions, and sending of daily reports through outlook, excel, word and other systems specific to the club;

Candidate Qualifications

  • A minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of managerial experience in a high end or luxury restaurant, resort, hotel, club, or similar environment required;
  • Experience managing similar volume levels and a large team of line level staff and assistant managers;
  • Advanced knowledge of beverage and wine service; beverage certifications preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well in a team;
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook);
  • High level of proficiency in Point of Sale, Time and Attendance and Inventory applications;
  • College degree in Hospitality Management or similar preferred;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a high-paced environment;
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours consecutively;
  • Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds;

Expectations:

  • To effectively manage a shift and maintain high service standards, paying close attention to detail
  • Develop a strong rapport with the membership and address them by name
  • Be proficient with the daily administration of the Grill, and complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Develop strong communication skills with your management team, colleagues, service staff and culinary staff
  • Be energetic and enthusiastic during the shift while maintaining a professional work environment
  • Be a leader and set the standards that you would like your team to follow
  • Be creative with your pre-shift meetings and develop incentive and training programs that will promote teamwork and improve revenue
  • Be a team member not an individual
