Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657

Unique Club/Facility Details

The Atmosphere: "Sophisticated Small Town"

  • Traditional Hill Country Elegance: The club maintains a "Texan-Traditional" aesthetic, combining luxury with a laid-back, approachable atmosphere. It feels like a high-end retreat without being overly formal.

  • The "Town Square" Dynamic: The Yacht Club and Cap Rock Clubhouse serve as the social anchors of the community. Because the resort is situated within a private residential area, it functions like a small town where neighbors and members see each other daily at the fitness center or coffee shops.

  • Multigenerational Legacy: A defining feature is its "Legacy Membership" feel. Many members are second or third-generation owners, giving the club a deeply rooted, family-oriented tradition that is rare in newer developments.

The Membership: "Vibrant & High-Engagement"

  • Extremely Active Social Calendar: Unlike many quiet retirement clubs, this membership is highly active. There are year-round events including wine festivals, holiday boat parades, classic car shows, and outdoor concerts at the amphitheater.

  • The "Flying Community": Because of the private jet center and 6,000-foot runway, there is a unique sub-culture of aviation enthusiasts within the membership who fly in for the weekend from Dallas, Houston, and Austin.

  • Diverse Interests: The membership is split between "Golfers," "Lake Life" enthusiasts, and "Tennis/Pickleball" athletes, creating a vibrant mix of social circles rather than a single-interest club.

Unique Lifestyle Facilities

  • Whitewater Putting Course & Exotic Bird Aviary: This is a social centerpiece. Members gather here not just for putting, but for the lush, tropical environment. The resident Macaws and Kookaburras create a unique "clubhouse conversation" piece found nowhere else in Texas.

  • Private Marina Culture: The Yacht Club offers a "dock-and-dine" lifestyle. Members arrive by boat for dinner or cocktails, creating a coastal-style social scene in the middle of the Texas Hill Country.

  • Mouratoglou Tennis Atmosphere: Having a world-renowned tennis academy on-site brings a high-energy, "pro-circuit" feel to the athletic facilities, attracting active members who value high-level coaching and competitive play.

  • Summit Rock Privacy: For members seeking a more traditional, secluded experience, the Summit Rock enclave offers a "private sanctuary" feel, removed from the main resort traffic, focused on quiet luxury and elite golf.

The "Natural" Facility Advantage

  • Pink Granite Boulders: The facilities (especially Cap Rock) are built directly into the massive, ancient pink granite outcroppings of the Llano Uplift. This gives the physical club a sense of permanence and "place" that modern, flat-land clubs cannot replicate.

  • Constant-Level Shoreline: The club’s relationship with the water is consistent. While other clubs in Texas might lose their beachfront during a dry summer, Horseshoe Bay’s facilities remain fully functional and beautiful year-round.

Club is open 7 days per week, 12 months per year.

Age of Club: 50
Club Ownership: Crescent

Golf Facilities

  • 18 hole course, par 72, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr
  • 18 hole course, par 72, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr
  • 18 hole course, par 72, designed by Jack Nicklaus Signature
1. Slick Rock (The "Classic") Slick Rock is the resort’s original course (opened in 1971) and is generally considered the most approachable for all skill levels. It follows a traditional parkland style with open fairways and a relaxed atmosphere. Unique Feature: The “Million Dollar Hole” (No. 14). This par-4 is world-famous for its winding cart path that drives directly through a 35-yard wide waterfall. Atmosphere: It meanders through a quiet residential neighborhood, featuring lush landscaping, oak trees, and colorful granite outcroppings. 2. Ram Rock (The "Challenger") True to its nickname, Ram Rock is notoriously difficult. It was built in 1981 and is famous for its narrow fairways, deep bunkers, and natural dry creeks that swallow wayward shots. Unique Feature: The Island Green (No. 4). This par-3 requires a precise carry over water to a small, well-defended island green, setting the tone for the rest of the high-stakes round. Atmosphere: Rugged and intimidating. It uses the natural Hill Country terrain—including dramatic elevation changes and rocky ravines—to force strategic play. 3. Apple Rock (The "Scenic") Apple Rock is often cited as the most beautiful course on the property. It occupies the highest ground in the resort, providing panoramic views of Lake LBJ and the surrounding hills. Unique Feature: The Back-to-Back Lake Holes. The course is the only one of the three RTJ designs that touches the shoreline. The par-5 10th and par-3 12th holes offer stunning vistas where the green appears to drop right into the lake. Atmosphere: Modern and expansive. It feels more "nature-first" than Slick Rock, with fewer homes and more dramatic vertical drops from the tee boxes. 4. Summit Rock (The "Exclusive Masterpiece") Summit Rock is the crown jewel of the resort, reserved exclusively for Club Members. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it was named the "Best New Course in America" by Golf Digest when it opened. Unique Feature: The 30-Mile View (No. 3). From the elevated tee box of the par-4 third hole, you can see for 30 miles across the Texas Hill Country. Nicklaus famously remarked that every hole on this course is a "signature hole." Atmosphere: Quiet and ultra-private. The course is split into two distinct sections: a lower level framed by ancient oak trees and a rugged upper section that follows a high ridgeline. Bonus: The Whitewater Putting Course While not a full-length club, this is a par-72 competitive putting course made of real Zoysia grass. It is designed like a miniature championship course, featuring bunkers, fairways, and water hazards. It is a social hub for families and members, famously featuring an aviary with exotic birds along the greens.

Racquet Facilities

  • 6 outdoor lighted Clay courts
  • 8 outdoor lighted Hard courts
The Mouratoglou Tennis Center This is the first and only Mouratoglou Tennis Center in the United States. It merges high-performance European training methods with the relaxed luxury of the Texas Hill Country. Diverse Surfaces: The center features 26 courts in total, including: 6 Red Clay Courts: These are USTA-certified and rare in Texas, offering a slower, more tactical game that is easier on the joints. 8 Hard Courts: Resurfaced in late 2025 with multi-layer acrylic for optimal year-round performance. The "Mouratoglou Method": All coaching staff are certified in Patrick Mouratoglou’s specific coaching philosophy, which focuses on personalized technical and tactical development. The "Garden" Setting: The courts are not just rows of concrete; they are scattered through a lush Oriental Garden featuring koi ponds, wooden bridges, sculptures, and mature trees, creating one of the most serene playing environments in the country. Pickleball: A Major Social Hub Pickleball is currently the most active membership segment at the resort. Dedicated Facilities: There are 14 lighted, permanent pickleball courts (expanded to 16 in recent 2026 updates). These are not converted tennis courts; they are custom-built for the sport. The "Ultimate Pickleball Weekend": These popular 2026 camps include 9+ hours of instruction, video analysis, and coached match play, concluding with a "Mimosas and Medals" social. Social Play: The club hosts daily "Round Robins" and "Dink & Drink" social mixers that take advantage of the active, high-engagement membership. New for 2026: Padel & The Racquet Clubhouse Building on the $350 million in recent resort-wide investments, the racquet sports program is seeing major 2026 upgrades: Padel Courts: Two brand-new Padel courts (a high-speed, glass-walled racquet sport popular in Europe) have been introduced to the facility to stay ahead of global trends. Racquet Sports Clubhouse: A new dedicated social hub for racquet sports is currently breaking ground. This facility will provide a "viewing lounge" for both tennis and pickleball, a pro shop, and a bar for post-match socializing. Professional Programming Adult Weekend Camps: These run throughout 2026 and include 9 hours of professional drills, point play strategy, and a personalized performance report. Junior Academy: Based on the same intensive physical and technical preparation used at the Mouratoglou Academy in France. Cardio Tennis: High-energy, music-driven workouts that focus on calorie burning and movement rather than just technical skill.

Swimming Facilities

  • 5 Outdoor
1. The Waterfront Floating Pool (The "Como" Pool) This is the resort’s most unique aquatic feature and the first of its kind in North America. The Concept: A 70,000-gallon pool that actually floats on Lake LBJ. The Experience: It is designed to mimic the luxury beach clubs of Lake Como, Italy. It features a surrounding mahogany deck, plush daybeds, and "Sand-Bar" service. It allows you to feel like you are swimming in the lake without being in the lake water itself. 2. Cap Rock Pool (The Architectural Crown Jewel) Located at the Cap Rock Clubhouse, this pool is primarily for members and guests of the Apple Rock and Slick Rock courses. The Design: Perched on a ridge of ancient red granite, this is a multi-tiered infinity pool. The Waterfall: It features a stunning 30-foot cascading waterfall that flows over natural rock formations into a lower basin. The Atmosphere: It offers 360-degree views of the Texas Hill Country and is considered the "quiet luxury" alternative to the main resort pool. 3. The Yacht Club Pool (The Coastal Vibe) Situated directly on the shoreline of Lake LBJ, the Yacht Club pool offers a more nautical, social atmosphere. The Layout: A large, lagoon-style pool surrounded by manicured lawns and white sand beaches. The Amenities: It is adjacent to the Yacht Club’s outdoor bar and dining area, making it the primary hub for "dock-and-dine" members who arrive by boat. The Beach: Just steps from the pool deck is a private white sand beach with lounge chairs for a coastal experience in the middle of Texas. 4. The Tower Pool (The Family Hub) Located at the main hotel tower, this is the largest and most active pool on the property. The Features: It is a heated, oversized pool with a separate hot tub and plenty of shallow areas for children. Poolside Service: It is served by the "Pool Bar & Grill," offering full food and cocktail service directly to your lounge chair. Activities: This is the center for resort-led pool games, music, and seasonal poolside movies. 5. New for 2026: The Wellness Center Lap Pool As part of the 2026 Wellness Center expansion, a new aquatic facility has been introduced: The Indoor/Outdoor Lap Pool: A climate-controlled pool dedicated to fitness and recovery. It features designated lanes for lap swimming and integrated technology for monitoring pace and heart rate, catering to the resort's more athletic membership tier.
