Job Description

The Director of Recreation provides strategic and operational leadership for all recreation, wellness, fitness, sports, aquatics, and family programming at Tokyo American Club. The role is responsible for delivering exceptional Member experiences, driving wellness initiatives, managing operational and financial performance, and supporting the Club’s long-term strategic objectives.

  • Lead all recreation, wellness, fitness, sports, aquatics, and family operations
  • Develop and implement Health & Wellness strategies and lifestyle programming
  • Enhance Member engagement, participation, and satisfaction
  • Manage departmental operations, budgets, staffing, and financial performance
  • Oversee recreation facilities, vendors, instructors, and contractors
  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership and other departments including Food & Beverage
  • Drive innovation, operational efficiency, and service excellence
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and risk management standards are maintained
  • Lead staff development, performance management, and organizational culture initiatives

Candidate Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and operational management experience in recreation, hospitality, wellness, fitness, or private club environments
  • Strong understanding of health, wellness, fitness, family recreation, and lifestyle programming trends
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills with Members, staff, Committees, and leadership teams
  • Proven ability to lead large, multi-functional operational teams
  • Strong strategic planning, budgeting, and financial management skills
  • Strong understanding of premium Member service and engagement strategies
  • Ability to manage complex multi-department operations effectively
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Experience managing instructors, subcontractors, vendors, and third-party service providers
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Food & Beverage, Membership, Facilities, and Marketing
  • Adaptability and ability to lead organizational change initiatives
  • Strong understanding of safety management, compliance, and operational risk management
  • Commitment to professionalism, innovation, teamwork, and Member-focused service excellence

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Hospitality Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
