Golf Facilities

The official golf season at Columbia begins April 1 and ends October 31. Columbia's golf course does not have tee times. All players must report to the matchmaker at the first tee before starting play.

Special Club Features

Established in 1898, Columbia Country Club is a private, member-owned club located in Chevy Chase, MD. Since it's inception, Columbia Country Club has grown and offers a full range of athletic, social, and recreational facilities. These inlcude an 18-hole championship golf course, Har-Tru tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a state of the art fitness center, a six lane duckpin bowling center, paddle tennis courts, a seasonal ice skating rink and a child minding center. Columbia Country Club hosted the 1921 U.S. Open, the 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, and the 2021 U.S. Girl’s Junior Championship.

Additionally, the club maintains multiple restaurants, providing a variety of dining experiences for its 1,500 members, as well as host personalized private functions for members and their guests. The essence of Columbia is not defined by the dining rooms or the athletic facilities, but by the tradition, excellence, and camaraderie of the membership that has become known as the Spirit of Columbia.

Annual gross revenues of $23 million with food and beverage sales of $5.8 million. 

Club is open 6 days per week, 12 months per year.

Brief Job Description

Department: Food & Beverage

Reports To: Clubhouse Manager

Position Summary Provide assistance with the coordination of all dining outlet activities by implementing systems that will better the staff, service and food and beverage operation.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for indoor and outdoor dining outlets, including formal dining areas, on-course Snack Bar and The Market.
  • Engage in proper member relations and communications.
  • Exceed membership expectations of food service quality.
  • Effectively work in conjunction with the Clubhouse Manager, Assistant Clubhouse Manager, Director of Catering, Executive Chef, Communications Director and Director of Housekeeping.
  • Develop and implement procedures for Club functions and private parties.
  • Prepare weekly schedules for line level staff.
  • ·Maintain active communication between the front of house and back of house operations.
  • Maintain awareness of standards regarding dining surroundings and develop same within staff.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing staff and operation training manuals.
  • Complete annual performance reviews for line level staff
  • Participates in the execution of the Club’s Internship Program.
  • Assists in developing and implementing business plans, operating reports, forecasts and budget figures.
  • Proactively seek new industry trends and standards.
  • Actively participate in monthly senior staff meetings and weekly food and beverage meetings.
  • Completion of management projects as assigned by the Clubhouse Manager and/or the General Manager.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Candidate Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or minimum three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • CMAA involvement is preferred, not required.
  • Demonstrates transferable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, guest service and effective communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Jonas point of sale software knowledge preferred, but not required.
  • TIPS Alcohol Awareness and CPR/AED certifications preferred, but not required.
  • Able to meet the physical demands and responsibilities of the position. He/she will, while regularly performing the essential functions of the job, be standing, sitting and lifting/moving items or objects over 50 pounds and sometimes lift/move items up to 100 pounds.
