Special Club Features

Stock Farm is located in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley in Western Montana. Nestled in the hills above the city of Hamilton, is a masterpiece that evolved from the vision of Charles Schwab and his passion for golf, shooting, and fly-fishing. Golf Course architect and designer, Tom Fazio, calls Stock Farm Club “The Augusta of the West.”

Stock Farm Club boasts one of the longest outdoor seasons in Montana, with golf available to play from April through November. Some of the country’s best skiing is easily accessible in all directions from the club. World-class fly-fishing throughout the Bitterroot Valley and Montana makes this a destination spot for all levels of anglers. A guided trip down the Bitterroot River makes for unforgettable memories.

Brief Job Description

The Rotational Internship

Position Description Summary:

The rotational internship rotates though all club departments learning the day-to-day operations of each area.  They will assist the Director of Member Services in coordinating all summer programs including Kids’ Camp.  

Rotational Interns will rotate through Banquets, Dining, Pool, Kitchen, Bar, Housekeeping, Equestrian Centre, Cabin Operations, Accounting, Fitness, and Spa as well as other areas that the Intern finds attractive.

 

Responsibilities, Essential Functions, Relationships and Operational Expectation

  • Arrives on time and works throughout shift. May be required to work additional hours as requested by management
  • Inspects all equipment daily for proper appearance
  • Handles member/guest complaints and problems
  • Assures that all safety, accident and emergency policies and procedures are in place and consistently followed.
  • Maintains control of food and beverage checks.
  • Assists with monthly bar inventory and controls
  • Assist the Director of Member Services and Clubhouse Manager in the scheduling and planning of all family activities including Kids Camp.
  • Inspects all dining areas to ensure proper maintenance of a clean and orderly area.
  • Assures that pre-opening and closing cleaning tasks are assigned and completed as required.
  • Inspects rooms and food pick-up areas for sanitation and safety issues.
  • Assists with daily set-up and break down of all banquet rooms
  • Greets members and guests
  • Suggests when additional service supplies and small equipment is needed
  • Works with all staff on a regular basis
  • Assumes various roles in all areas of Food and Beverage service
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Departmental Objectives

Food and Beverage

  1. Understand and practice the club’s service culture
  2. Pass menu exams and be knowledgeable about the club’s F&B programs
  3. Menu costing and placement
  4. Understand labor budgets and utilize forecasts to adhere to our financial goals
  5. Understand beverage cost and inventory procedures
  6. Understand F&B structure and organization
  7. Understand the difference in banquet service and ala carte service

Catering

  1. Meet with the Director of Catering
  2. Understand Banquet Event Orders
  3. Participate in client meetings with the Director of Catering
  4. Understand banquet forecasts and budgeting
  5. Participate in the setup, execution, and breakdown of banquets

Purchasing and Receiving

  1. Work with the club’s Purchasing Director to understand the ordering process
  2. Understand how to check for quality in products entering the building
  3. Understand how invoices are coded
  4. Learn and practice proper sanitation, safety, and rotation of items
  5. Understand inventory procedures

Agronomy

  1. Work with the golf course superintendent to gain basic agronomy knowledge
  2. Learn about our cultural agronomic practices
  3. Understand our playability standards

Marketing and Communications

  1. Send out weekly ‘This Week at the Farm’ email blasts
  2. Create a social media presence
  3. Create marketing materials for summer events

Accounting

  1. Understand basic accounting functions and positions within club accounting
  2. Understand the budget process and review the budget with the controller
  3. Understand how to read and breakdown basic financials
  4. Learn the basics of a Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Statement

Fitness Centre

  1. Learn and understand the functions of the athletic center
  2. Observe a tennis lesson with a tennis professional
  3. Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the athletic center
  4. Understand the operations of the athletic center front desk

Spa

  1. Learn and understand spa procedures
  2. Create and implement reservations for appointments
  3. Work directly with Esthetician and Massage Therapists
  4. Ensures proper inventory is maintained of products

Cabin Operations

  1. Learn the fundamentals of taking a cabin reservation
  2. Understand the day-to-day operations of the Cabins Operations position
  3. Complete tasks such as gift baskets, grocery shopping, etc.
  4. Work directly with Executive Housekeeper to properly maintain and refresh cabins

 

Candidate Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Very strong ability to multi-task, analyze, and troubleshot a variety of situations
  • Confidence in being a leader and managing
  • Open and willing to learn and work with  other members of  management  and interns
  • Ability to work long days, nights, and weekends along with a highly variable schedule

Qualifications

  • Working toward a degree in hospitality management
  • Has a general interest in private clubs
  • Valid driver’s license
