Sutton Bay is an exclusive world-class destination private club located 45 minutes north of Pierre, South Dakota. The Club offers an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole short course both designed by Graham Marsh. The main lodge at Sutton Bay sits 300 feet above Lake Oahe and offers a spacious and well-stocked golf shop with the finest brands, a dining room, lounge, board room, spa, wine cellar and gaming room. The Club offers 56 beds, appointed with the finest furnishings, to accommodate the overnight stays of our members and their guests complimented by high-touch yet friendly service. Sutton Bay, led by seasoned and knowledgeable guides, offer some of the finest pheasant hunting and walleye fishing in the world. Sporting clays and a shooting range round out the vast array of amenities offered.

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of this premiere destination private club. The AGM acts as a key liaison between the various departments and reports directly to the General Manager (GM). With a focus on maintaining the highest standards of service and member satisfaction, the AGM collaborates closely with all department heads, especially Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Guest Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Overall Club Management
- Manages all aspects of the club in the absence of the GM.
- Assists with budgets, staffing, and operating procedures for various departments.
- Acts as an administrative link between departments, ensuring smooth interdepartmental coordination.
2. Financial Oversight
- Assists with monitoring budgets, directing corrective actions, and ensuring alignment with financial goals.
- Evaluates payroll and monthly financials.
- Researches new products to improve the club and enhance the experience of members and guests.
3. Training and Development
- Plans and coordinates training and professional development programs for club personnel.
- Collaborates with the GM on long-range and annual plans, operating reports, forecasts, and budgets.
4. Member and Employee Relations
- Maintains regular contact with members to ensure maximum satisfaction.
- Assists with communication, including monthly newsletters for members and employees.
- Works with contractors to maintain updated websites and online information.
- Addresses and resolves complaints from members, guests, and employees.
- Plans and facilitates activities and events that foster a meaningful and fun work culture for employees.
- Represents the club within the community.
5. Operational Excellence
- Monitors safety conditions, ensures compliance with safety procedures, and updates emergency plans.
- Conducts ongoing facility inspections to uphold cleanliness, safety, and service standards.
- Oversees preventive maintenance and safety programs.
6. Club Events
- Oversees the coordination of annual member events.
7. Human Resources
- Works closely with other managers and employees regarding grievances and concerns.
- May serve as a departmental manager in the absence of a department head.
- Participates in the hiring process for clubhouse staff and reviews selection of department heads.
- Assists with H2B application process, recruiting, and hiring.
Educational Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a premier private club environment, including food and beverage and supervisory roles.
Education: Degree or similar experience in Business, Restaurant, Hospitality Management, PGM Program preferred.
