Founded in 1923, River Oaks Country Club is located in one of the fastest growing cities in the country with an exceptionally strong economy. Situated on 183 beautiful acres, just four miles from downtown Houston, the Club offers a full gamut of recreational and social amenities to include a 1923 Donald Ross designed golf course recently renovated by Tom Fazio, a well-equipped and active four bay golf teaching center, extensive tennis facilities including eight clay courts, eight hard courts, four pickleball courts, aquatics, a state-of-the-art fitness center and an elegant clubhouse offering a variety of member dining and event spaces. River Oaks has a long-standing reputation of providing members, their families and guests with an exceptional club experience and unparalleled service.

The Club celebrated 100 years of service to the membership and the community in 2023. Just before that milestone, a $28 million-dollar addition on the East End of the Clubhouse was completed to include four new swimming pools, expanded outdoor recreation facilities, a 250-seat poolside dining outlet, new employee facilities, additional private event space, and youth activities center.

River Oaks Country Club is considered among the nation’s premier private clubs. The Club has a rich golf, tennis and social history and holds a prominent position in the lives of its multigenerational membership. River Oaks’ 1,600 members are actively involved in the city’s social, philanthropic and business activities.

River Oaks Country Club hosts the US Men's Clay Court Championship Tennis Tournament each year in April.

A la carte dining is offered for breakfast lunch and dinner six days a week. Our a la carte member poolside dining operates 8 months per year with seasonal adjustments. A la carte dining is offered in the Clubhouse's full service locker rooms for both ladies and men. Halfway house food and beverage fare is provided for golfers daily. The Bar offered small bites, an extensive wine by the glass selection and spirits. The banquet and catering operation coordinates private dining and events. The ballroom will seat up to 500 guests. Main Dining Room will seat 200 guests. The Club offers six other private rooms which will seat between 10-60 guests. The Club has a banquet kitchen that services all private events and a separate kitchen for a la carte dining. In the summer months a separate poolside kitchen provides for members dining at the pool.

Summer Intern

Job Description

A Summer Intern program at ROCC provides you with an opportunity to gain experience in Youth and Family Programing, Aquatics and Food & Beverage. You will dedicate much of your time to the smooth running of the recreations and casual dining outlet at the Club.

Program participants will engage in a rotational program, paired with an Assistant Manager or Department Head as a mentor. Training is in three distinct styles Youth and Family Programing, Aquatics, and Casual Dining Services.

Programming throughout the year includes:

  • Department rotations including food and beverage, family programing, and aquatics.
  • Regularly scheduled meetings with Line Managers and Mentor.
  • One on one discussions with Department Leaders.
  • Opportunity to participate in committee meetings.
  • Area Club Tours & Networking.
  • Leadership Development and Education.

 

This program is a summer position commencing at the beginning of your summer and finalizing towards your return to college. Opportunities for employment for the following summer can be discussed with the Program Coordinator based on business needs, performance, and open position requirements.

Our Clubhouse Team typically works a five-day week, Monday through Sunday, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The weekly work schedule is based on club events and operational needs. Availability on evenings, holidays, and weekends is expected of all staff. Must be available at least 40 hours a week.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Applicant is currently enrolled in a 4-year hospitality program or comparable and has had prior experience in food and beverage, preferable in a private club setting.
  • Applicant must have open availability for the full summer, starting before Memorial Day.
  • Enjoy working in the industry, are energetic and enjoys solving problems and challenges.
  • Seize opportunities and enjoy turning ideas into action.
  • Naturally builds rapport well and genuinely care about people and is available and ready to help.
  • Listens and thinks before acting. Has a high sense of urgency and are able to adapt to your environment, paying close attention to the details.
  • Have a true passion for hospitality and the private club industry.

Educational Requirements

Currently enrolled, and nearing completion of a college program in Hospitality Management or similar academic field.
