Our 18-hole golf course, originally designed by the renowned architect Arthur Hills, has been thoughtfully renovated over the years to offer an outstanding golfing experience that blends both history and modern innovation. Job Description

Forest Lake Country Club is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic college student for a summer internship opportunity in hospitality management. This internship will provide the intern with hands-on experience and in-depth exposure to both the dining room operations and catering/banquet services within the club, offering valuable insight into the day-to-day workings of a premier private country club. 

Under the supervision of the Dining Room Manager and Catering Manager, the intern will assist in managing and overseeing daily operations, working closely with staff to ensure excellent service for members and guests during peak golf season. The internship will also provide opportunities to learn about member expectations, club events, and event planning. 

This paid internship will be tailored to meet the internship requirements set forth by the intern's university while providing practical experience in hospitality management and operations of Forest Lake Country Club. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Dining Room Operations (Assisting the Dining Room Manager):  

  • Support the daily operations of the club’s dining room(s), ensuring exceptional service and a smooth guest experience. 

  • Assist with coordinating staff schedules and overseeing food service during peak dining times. 

  • Learn about inventory control, including ordering supplies and managing stock levels within dining rooms. 

  • Observe and assist with managing member feedback, resolving issues, and ensuring member satisfaction. 

  • Help maintain the atmosphere of the dining room and outside dining areas, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and presentation.

  • Learn how to have open communication with staff and manage not only their performance in the clubhouse but also managing their specific needs and outside work requests. 

Catering & Banquet Operations (Assisting the Catering Manager): 

  • Assist in planning and executing various events, including member banquets, weddings, and corporate gatherings. 

  • Work closely with the catering team to ensure events run smoothly from preparation to service. 

  • Support logistical aspects of event setup, menu planning, and coordinating with vendors. 

  • Observe the creation of event timelines and assist in troubleshooting on-site challenges during events. 

  • Gain exposure to the financial aspects of catering, including budgeting, invoicing, and pricing. 

Club Operations & Member Engagement: 

  • Learn the intricacies of a private country club's operations and how different departments interact. 

  • Gain exposure to member relations and customer service, ensuring the expectations of members are consistently met. 

  • Assist in preparing and executing special club events, tournaments, and social functions. 

  • Observe and contribute to day-to-day decision-making processes in a high-pressure environment. 

General Internship Responsibilities: 

  • Attend regular check-in meetings with managers to discuss performance, progress, and learning goals. 

  • Develop a deep understanding of the operational processes involved in running a successful country club. 

  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and feedback opportunities. 

  • Complete assigned projects and reports that reflect knowledge gained during the internship. 

  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to align with club events and peak hours. 

Qualifications: 

  • Enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field. 

  • Strong interest in hospitality, event management, and the food and beverage industry. 

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 

  • Have enthusiasm for learning and a strong desire to gain practical experience in hospitality operations. 

  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or event planning is a plus but not required. 

  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. 

Internship Details: 

  • Duration: Summer (typically May through August) with flexibility based on academic calendar. 

  • Compensation: Paid internship with hourly compensation based on experience. 

  • Mentorship: Direct mentorship from both the Dining Room Manager and Catering Manager, with regular check-ins and support.  

  • University Credit: This position will be tailored to meet the intern's university’s internship requirements, with cooperation from the club and university.
