Food & Beverage Intern

Job Description

This internship program is designed to provide an in-depth exposure to the Club Management Industry with a focus on Front of House Food and Beverage operations. Interns will work directly with the Food and Beverage Director, Clubhouse Manager, and the rest of the F&B team to assist with the organization and execution of Bay Head Yacht Club’s summertime dining offerings, ranging from nightly a la carte service to major club-wide member events.

As part of their initial orientation, the intern will undergo training in BHYC’s service positions such as busser, server, and food runner, in addition to receiving a comprehensive tour featuring the history of the Club to effectively demonstrate the mission of BHYC and why it is a choice destination for our members.

For the duration of the program, the intern will spend time shadowing in various other departments including Events, Reception/Administration, and the Racquets Pro Shop. Although the main focus of the internship will be in the F&B department, students will have the opportunity to rotate through these other departments to best develop a well-rounded understanding of both BHYC’s day-to-day operations and the club industry at large.

Resposibilities include

  • Utilizing SevenRooms to book and organize reservations for a la carte dining space

  • Assigning and confirming completion of pre-shift and post-shift sidework

  • Updating a la carte menus on Canva, Adobe Spark, & Pacesetter

  • Making changes in the POS system using Jonas

  • Acting as a Floor Manager during service by greeting and seating members, monitoring service staff, and mediating any issues or special requests

  • Participating in department strategic meetings

  • Setting up, executing and breaking down club events

Candidate Qualifications

  • Passionate about hospitality and the club industry

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and problem solve quickly

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Eager to learn and be a team player

  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays from May through August

  • Previous Food and Beverage experience in a private club preferred

Educational Requirements

  • Recently graduated or currently enrolled in a four-year Hospitality or Business program preferred

  • CMAA membership preferred
