Horseshoe Bay Golf Club is a unique 26-year-old private golf club positioned right in the heart of the historic Door Peninsula, in beautiful Northeastern Wisconsin. With 53 beaches spanning wide-open sand dunes and rare limestone shores, nearly 300 miles of shoreline, Door County is renowned for some of the most beautiful beaches in Wisconsin and the Midwest at large.  Nestled in the Town of Egg Harbor, Horseshoe Bay Golf Club offers golf, dining, swimming, and other activities on a seasonal basis. The membership of 672 is active in all areas of the club and is diverse in its background as they come to us from all over the country, but all have strong ties to the Midwest.

Since 2000, this individually owned Golf Club has provided Door County vacationers and residents the private club experience. Club membership is currently full, with a membership count of 672 with 242 as social members representing over 20 states.  At the height of the season Horseshoe Bay Golf Club employs around 120 staff members. Horseshoe Bay is a seasonal club, open from May through October for golf and May through December for Food & Beverage. Club revenues of over $8.5 M with approximately 18,000 rounds and annual food and beverage revenues of more than $2.0 M. Member dining generates 75% of total food and beverage revenues.  The F&B Operation is open 6 days per week from May through October and has limited dining, 3 days per week, in November and December.

Horseshoe Bay Golf Club is proud to announce the development of a new employee housing complex, that became available in 2026. This thoughtfully designed project, located conveniently on Club property, provides convenient and affordable housing options for college interns, J-1 Visa students, and seasonal professional staff.  This complex features modern townhomes, 2 bedroom and 2.5 bath units, accommodating up to 40 employees at double occupancy.

Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

This internship is designed for an individual pursuing a career in hospitality management who wants meaningful, hands-on experience in a high-end private club environment. Interns will receive exposure to member relations, inventory and POS systems, food, wine and beverage knowledge and leadership components of managing a high-end private golf course, with opportunities tailored to their experience and career goals.

The intern will work closely with Food and Beverage Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Members Clubhouse.  The intern will work closely with the Food and Beverage management team to see that high standards of service are being upheld within the Member’s Clubhouse.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be used daily to communicate with the membership, owners, and staff. 

The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, initiative, strong communication skills, a desire to learn, and a commitment to delivering exceptional member experiences. The ideal candidate will leave Horseshoe Bay Golf Club with increased operational knowledge, greater responsibility, and a stronger understanding of what it takes to operate food & beverage facilities at a private club.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads by example with professional presence and enthusiasm.
  • Displays knowledgeable floor presence with positive Member and Guest interaction.
  • Assists in training, supervising all staff.
  • Trains staff in all aspects of POS system.
  • Inputs initial menus and pricing in POS system.
  • Develops and maintains dining room reservation system updates in Jonas (JAM).
  • Coordinate floor plans according to reservations.
  • Leads pre-shift every day.
  • Works with Food and Beverage Manager and Sous Chefs to ensure monthly menu changes are updated and implemented.
  • Assess all inventory of dining room silverware, coffee pots, water pitchers, glassware, flatware, plateware, salt and peppers, sugar bowls, linen, trays, and tray jacks and communicate to Director of Food and Beverage for purchase.
  • Ensures that work areas are clean, stocked, secured, and well maintained.
  • Serves as clubs opening or closing Manager on Duty when needed.
  • Assists in making reservations, answering the phone, and assures all restaurant staff can do so when needed.
  • Schedules weekly Clubhouse staff, including servers, bartenders, hosts, food runners, and server assistants. To be approved by Director of Food and Beverage.
  • Updates calendars (online and on the main drive) whenever there is a change.
  • Keeps current with changing member preference and industry trends.
  • Performs other appropriate assignments and projects as required by the Director of Food and Beverage.
  • Performs daily POS closeout, credit card batching, end-of-day reporting i.e. cover counts, gratuities, and so on. To include manager nightly recap email.
  • Receives and resolves complaints in tandem with the Food and Beverage management team.
  • Food and Beverage Intern will be required to work 45-55 hours per week.
  • All days off must be requested and approved two weeks in advance with Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Ensure accurate timekeeper for Ala Carte staff to be approved at the end of every week by Director of Food and Beverage for payroll.
  • Ensures a high standard of appearance, hospitality and service in personnel and cleanliness of all areas
  • Ensures timeliness of all staff and management. 
  • Participates in inventory controls in Food and Beverage areas.

Candidate Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous private club experience preferred but not required
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in hospitality management
  • Dependable, motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The intern is an active position which requires the individual to work while standing for long periods of time. 

The intern must be able to:

  • Work while standing and walking for up to six (6) hours.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time; ability to tolerate all seasonal weather conditions within indoor & outdoor activity.
  • Bend and lift up to 30 pounds Carry, push and pull objects of up to 30 pounds.
  • Walk up and down stairs while carrying tools, equipment and supplies up to 30 pounds.
  • Walk in an environment involving some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Read, hear, and speak English to follow instructions, recipes, and safety manuals.

Educational Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from Hospitality Management, Tourism & Travel, Event Management, Culinary Arts, or related program preferred
